A podcast mic is normally the last thing you expect to move around, but wireless removes a cable from the desk and makes unusual camera angles or standing setups much easier. It can also connect directly to supported phones, tablets and cameras with the right receiver or accessory.
If wireless is not useful for a particular recording, USB keeps it simple and XLR lets it join a mixer or audio interface. That is the real strength: buying one mic does not lock you into one setup.
Sound and everyday use
The dynamic cardioid design focuses on the voice in front and rejects a decent amount of surrounding noise. It still needs to be spoken into from the right distance, but the sound is clean and full enough for podcasts, voiceovers and YouTube videos.
The controls and software give you room to adjust gain, monitoring, RGB and noise reduction. It is a lot of functionality for the price, although a simpler mic may suit someone who only ever plans to plug in one XLR cable.
